As Power Africa Coordinator, Richard oversees the U.S. government’s initiative to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. With over 200 partners from the private sector, African countries, other donor nations, and multilateral institutions, Power Africa is one of the largest public-private initiatives transforming Africa. Richard joined after serving as Mission Director for USAID/Uganda, overseeing an assistance portfolio encompassing health, economic growth, education, democracy/governance, and humanitarian programs. Prior to Uganda, he was Deputy Coordinator for Power Africa in South Africa, and before that, a USAID legal officer in various locations. Before joining USAID, Richard worked at Dell Inc in Austin, Texas, leading global site selection efforts. At Wachovia Securities, he managed a $1B portfolio of syndicated credit. He began his career as an attorney focusing on capital markets debt transactions.
