Dr. Muyungi is the Advisor and Presidential Envoy of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania – Environment and Climate Change. He is a global expert in environment and climate change with over 30 years of extensive experience, working within the government of Tanzania, UN, NGOs, academia, and the private sector, including over 20 years working as a national lead negotiator and one of the key African lead coordinators, trainers and mentors in the area of climate change. He is one of the first and only members of the Commonwealth Expert Group on Climate Finance from eastern Africa which has helped the African region to mobilize climate financial resources through the Hub in Mauritius. When he was the Chairman of the LDCs he helped to establish the LDC Fund which is helping thousands of people in LDC countries in Africa to access the funds needed for climate adaptation; In 2008 as the First chair of the Global Adaptation Fund Board on behalf of developing countries he introduced the simplified access process that is helping Africa to access Adaptation resources faster. He chaired the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change Subsidiary Body on Scientific and Technological Advice( UN SBSTA) and was a Member of the Clean Development Mechanism -CDM Executive Board to help Africa to participate and benefit from the process. He was a Member of the Global Green Climate Fund Board 2016-2021 and presently member of the Global Standing Committee on Finance. He is highly versed in international and national climate governance, just energy transition and clean cooking global agenda, finance, adaptation, mitigation, capacity building and development sustainability. He has a PhD in Climate Change, A Masters Degree in Environmental management and a first Degree in Agriculture on top of extensive training in many other related areas. He has skills in: Carbon Trade, Global and national development implications of climate change; Energy, Resource mobilization, Climate finance project development and risks management; and international climate governance processes. He is also a lecturer on international climate governance, Mitigation including carbon trade frameworks, finance, risks and climate security issues.
