Makhtar Diop is the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group’s private sector arm in emerging markets and developing economies. Since 2021, he has championed private sector-led development, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth to address global challenges like poverty, inequality, and climate change. Under his leadership, the IFC has scaled investments in infrastructure, digital economy, healthcare, and renewable energy, leveraging blended finance and public-private partnerships. He has also prioritized financial inclusion and digital transformation, investing in fintech, and bridging the digital divide. Before joining the IFC, Makhtar served as Vice President for Infrastructure and Africa at the World Bank, leading efforts that delivered significant investments to Sub-Saharan Africa. Earlier, he was Senegal’s Minister of Economy and Finance, driving key structural reforms. Makhtar holds economics degrees from the University of Warwick and the University of Nottingham in England.
